HISTORY: Sport climbing is a form of climbing that relies on permanent anchors fixed to a rock or an artificial climbing wall surface to arrest a fall. While traditional climbing requires climbers to place removable protection as they ascend. Note: Sport Climbing was first coined by Dan Goodwin in the 1980s when he designed and built the climbing wall for the First International Sport Climbing Championship at Snowbird, Utah. Today, Sport Climbing will be included the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan as one of the three combined disciplines.
